Parchment Techniques

There are different techniques involved:

Embossing is the pressing of a round tool into the back of the parchment to spread the fibres of the parchment and create white lines and embossed white work. The more this is repeated, the whiter the result.Colouring is from the back or the front depending on what effect is required, and can be by most mediums including polychromo crayons, felt tips, acrylic paints and glitter pens.Perforation is by special fine pin tools, either one, two or four pins or in patterns, to perforate holes to decorate.Picot cutting is the specialist V shape cutting of the perforations to add another dimension of decoration to the piece.
